For The Love of Food
Welcome to “Cooking With Romeo”, a great spot to find fantastically delicious recipes. I have a love (or maybe I should say passion) for food. . . So much, that at one time in my life I weighed a bit over 300 pounds! Well, I did work hard and take off much of that weight, but I never lost my love for food. Good, delicious GLORIOUS FOOD!
My passion for food is a curse. I crave big juicy hamburgers at 3:00 am, or french fires dipped in blue cheese dressing (OMG! if you have not tried that one . . . .you are missing out on something wonderful). I am the guy that everyone hates to go out to a restaurant with. Because, I can not decide what I want. Food is so good that I find making a dining decision is frustrating. The waitress may come back 3 to 4 times to our table and ask if we are ready to order. Finally, I make my decision and I am satisfied with my selection. The waitress returns for a final time to take our order. She looks at me . . . I open my mouth . . . and WHAT comes out? A last minute change up. I order something totally unexpected and not the selection I had intended. This is life for me, as a food lover
I grew up gay (and happy . . .or is it happy and gay . . oh I don’t know!), I felt right at home in the kitchen – washing dishes (gee, thanks Mom) But at least I learned how to look cute in an apron. By my teen age years, my passion for food began to develop, and I learned that I loved to cook. Most of my true cooking skills have been learned in the kitchen, using handed down recipes from generations long ago. I also was fortunate to take on work for about 2 years at one of the most prestigious bakeries in all of New York. It was an honor for me, because I had no prior baking experience or schooling. But the owner gave me a chance and taught me the trade from top to bottom. I also worked for a short time as a line cook in a chain restaurant. I enjoyed my experience, but soon decided that cooking under pressure was not for me. It seemed to take the fun out of the kitchen. I preferred to cook in my own kitchen, where I could love my food. Talk to it. Become one with the food. And, best of all . . . share it with those who are dear to me.
The recipes on this site come from a wide range of origin. Many of them come from the good ‘ol days. My father held on to a very old recipe collection from his mother. Many of the recipes are from the World War II era, and I will be sharing many of these delicious items with you. Some of the recipes are much newer and have come from other Chefs around the world. But I can promise you that no matter where the recipe came from, every single recipe here has been cooked and approved by me, Chef Romeo, foods biggest fan! If I don’t LOVE it . . it does not get on my site!
I will walk you through each recipe and provide helpful tips I have learned from my cooking adventures, as well as some useful photos. If you use any of the recipes from my site, I encourage you to come back and leave a comment to let me know how it went. Let me know if you loved it or hated it . . .or if you made some changes and made it even better? And, if you have a favorite recipe that you think is good enough for Romeo’s Kitchen – send it to me. I am always looking to explore new dishes, and share them with my viewers.
